Tour overview

This 15-day escorted holiday pairs a luxury safari in South Africa with a week on the beach in Mauritius, with flights from London and almost everything included. A tour leader and wildlife specialist travel with the group in South Africa, and a local representative looks after you in Mauritius. You stay five nights at a five-star tented camp in the Mabula Game Reserve and seven nights at a five-star beachfront resort, both all-inclusive, with 12 breakfasts, 12 lunches, 12 dinners, five high teas and drinks served from 10am to 10pm. Return flights to Johannesburg, the flight on to Mauritius and all transfers are included.

After an overnight flight from London, you drive north from Johannesburg to the Waterberg Mountains and the Mabula Game Reserve, part of a UNESCO-listed biosphere. Your camp has private tents with verandas, an outdoor pool, a spa and a restaurant, and the first evening brings a talk from one of the reserve's resident wildlife specialists. Over the next few days, four game drives head out in search of the Big Five – lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo – along with giraffe, zebra and many species of antelope.

The safari days are balanced with plenty of time to relax at camp. There is a morning bush walk through the savannah, a traditional bush lunch, sundowner drinks and snacks out in the reserve, and an evening of stargazing under the clear African sky.

A flight from Johannesburg brings you to Mauritius and seven nights at Long Beach, a five-star resort on the island's east coast. Most days are free to enjoy the beach, pools and resort facilities, with optional trips such as a speedboat tour of the islands off the coast, the island's north, or a day volunteering with the Wildlife Foundation on Île aux Aigrettes. One full-day excursion is included: the Wonders of the South, visiting a lychee winery, the sacred lake of Ganga Talao, the Black River Gorges National Park and the Seven Coloured Earth at Chamarel, with lunch at a local home.

The physical rating is low. This holiday suits travellers who want a first safari in comfort, followed by a genuine rest by the Indian Ocean, with the travel arrangements taken care of.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book this tour?

Tap any "Enquire" button on the page and one of our travel specialists will be in touch within 24 hours (often same day). We'll confirm availability on your preferred date, run through anything you need to know, and only ask for the deposit once you've decided.

What financial protection do I get?

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

Are flights included?

Yes. Return flights from London Gatwick to Johannesburg, the flight from Johannesburg to Mauritius and all transfers are included in the price.

What does all-inclusive cover?

All breakfasts, lunches and dinners at the camp and resort, five high teas, and drinks served from 10am to 10pm, plus all local taxes and fees.

What is the safari camp like?

A five-star tented camp in the Mabula Game Reserve, with private tents, verandas, an outdoor pool, a spa and a restaurant. The tents are spacious and comfortable, not camping.

How many game drives are there?

Four game drives in 4x4 vehicles, at different times of day, plus a morning bush walk, a bush lunch, sundowners and a stargazing evening.

How much free time is there in Mauritius?

Most days are free at the resort. One full-day tour of the south is included, and optional excursions are available on other days.

What should I pack?

Light layers for cool safari mornings and evenings, a sun hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, closed shoes for the bush walk, binoculars and swimwear. Reef-safe sunscreen helps protect the coral in Mauritius.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
