Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Poon Hill – 15 Days
Poon Hill sunrise and a night at Annapurna Base Camp in the Annapurna Sanctuary, in a group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 15-day trek takes you into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a high glacial basin ringed by some of the world's highest mountains, combining the famous sunrise viewpoint of Poon Hill with a night at Annapurna Base Camp. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a trek leader and porters. You stay fourteen nights: four in hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara and ten in simple mountain teahouses on the trail, with small twin-share rooms and shared facilities. A few meals are included, leaving you free to choose from the teahouse menus of dal bhat, noodles and momos.
After a welcome meeting in Kathmandu, you drive to Pokhara, a relaxed town on the shores of Phewa Lake with the Annapurnas reflected in its waters. The trek begins near Nayapul, climbing through villages and rhododendron forest to Ulleri and on to Ghorepani, a village of stone teahouses high on a ridge.

Early risers can hike up Poon Hill to watch the sunrise light up Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna range, one of the great mountain views of Nepal. The trail continues through forest to Tadapani, with more sunrise views, then down and up the stone staircases of Chhomrong to Sinuwa and Doban in the Modi Khola valley.
Climbing the narrow valley past Deurali, you reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp, beneath the sacred fishtail peak, and on to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130m, where you spend the night surrounded by glaciers and towering peaks, waking for sunrise on Annapurna I. The return descends through Bamboo, Chhomrong and the hot springs at Jhinu Danda, then climbs to Pothana before a short downhill walk back towards Pokhara, where a final free day lets you rest by the lake.
The physical rating is high, with long days on steep stone steps and altitude up to 4,130m. This trek suits fit walkers ready for a challenge, who want to stand among the giants of the Himalaya without technical climbing. Porters carry your main bag, so you only need a day pack on the trail. The best trekking seasons are spring, when the rhododendrons bloom, and autumn, when the skies are clearest.
