Luxury India & Nepal: Delhi, Varanasi, Pokhara & Chitwan – 19 Days
Delhi, Jaipur, the Taj Mahal, Lucknow and Varanasi, then Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan in comfortable hotels, in a group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 19-day small-group tour combines the great sights of northern India with the mountains, temples and jungles of Nepal, travelling at a relaxed pace with comfortable hotels and many experiences included. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout. You stay eighteen nights in air-conditioned hotels, among them a family-run heritage palace hotel in Jaipur, the Yak and Yeti in Kathmandu and a jungle lodge on the Rapti River in Chitwan. Seventeen breakfasts, five lunches and nine dinners are included, from a welcome dinner in Delhi and a home-cooked meal in Jaipur to an Awadhi cooking class in Lucknow and a Nepali cooking class near Nagarkot.
In Delhi a leader-led tour of the old city visits the Sikh temple of Sheeshganj Gurudwara and the great Jama Masjid mosque. In Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, you stay at the Narain Niwas Palace, a heritage hotel run by the same family for generations, and visit Amber Fort and the City Palace. Agra brings the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, seat of the Mughal Empire.

Lucknow, rarely included on group tours, is known for its elegant architecture and Awadhi cuisine, and you dine at a café run by survivors of acid attacks. In Varanasi you join a candle-flower ceremony on the Ganges, watch the evening ganga aarti and take a sunrise boat ride past the ghats, and visit Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon.
Flying to Kathmandu, you explore the city's temples and squares with your leader, then head to the hill station of Nagarkot for a 180-degree Himalayan sunrise. A flight takes you to Pokhara, where you cross Phewa Tal by boat, visit the Peace Pagoda and watch dawn break over the Annapurnas from Sarangkot. Two nights at a jungle lodge in Chitwan include a dugout canoe trip and wildlife spotting before you return to Kathmandu.
The physical rating is low, making this tour suitable for most travellers. It suits those who want to see India and Nepal in comfort, with a small group and the logistics handled throughout. Flights between Delhi and Kathmandu and within Nepal are included.
