South or north?
The south (Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, Playa Paraíso): the sunniest side, with the best beaches, restaurants and most of the five-star hotels. The north (Puerto de la Cruz, Buenavista): greener, more traditional and cooler, with dramatic scenery, banana plantations and botanical gardens. Many guests split their stay.
When to go
Any time! Winter is mild and sunny, in the low 20s °C, making Tenerife one of the best winter-sun destinations within easy reach of the UK. Summer is hot but rarely oppressive. Flights take about four and a quarter hours.
