Trip overview

Andalucía's three great Moorish cities, linked by fast trains. Spend two nights in Seville for the cathedral, the Real Alcázar and flamenco in Triana, two in Córdoba for the Mezquita and the flower-filled patios of the old Jewish quarter, and two in Granada for the Alhambra, with the Sierra Nevada behind it. It is southern Spain at its most historic, and very easy to do by rail.

First-class trains take under an hour from Seville to Córdoba and around an hour and three quarters from Córdoba to Granada. You fly into Seville and home from Málaga, about 90 minutes by road from Granada. Two nights in each city keeps the pace brisk; we can add nights or a few days on the Costa del Sol at the end.

Good to know

Do I need to book the Alhambra in advance?

Yes. Alhambra tickets are timed and limited, and they often sell out weeks ahead in spring and autumn. We recommend booking as soon as your dates are confirmed.

How do the trains work?

High-speed trains run between Seville, Córdoba and Granada several times a day. Seville to Córdoba takes about 45 minutes and Córdoba to Granada about 1¾ hours.

Which UK airports can I fly from?

There are direct flights to Seville and from Málaga from London and several regional UK airports, including Manchester. Málaga has more choice of routes than Seville.

Can I add a beach stay?

Yes. The Costa del Sol is about 90 minutes from Granada, so a few nights in Marbella, Nerja or Málaga before flying home is easy to add.
