Highlights of Sri Lanka with Flights – 16 Days
Sigiriya, Kandy, tea country, Yala safaris and Galle, with UK flights and all meals included.
Tour overview
This 16-day escorted tour is a complete journey around Sri Lanka, from the ancient cities of the Cultural Triangle and the tea-clad hills to leopard country and the colonial south coast, with return flights from the UK and all meals included. Groups have between 12 and 28 travellers aged 12 and over, with an expert tour guide throughout. You stay fourteen nights in comfortable three- and four-star hotels, among them the beachfront Jetwing Sea in Negombo, the Jetwing Lakeside in Dambulla, the historic Jetwing St Andrew's in Nuwara Eliya and Cinnamon Wild in Yala, after an overnight flight out from the UK.
From Negombo you head to the Cultural Triangle for three nights, climbing Sigiriya, the Lion Rock fortress built by a fifth-century king, and exploring the ruined royal cities of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites with great stupas and sacred Buddhist sites.

Travelling to Kandy, you visit the Dambulla Rock Temple, with its caves full of Buddha statues, and a spice garden, then explore the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya and the Temple of the Tooth. A train through some of the world's most beautiful tea country brings you to Nuwara Eliya, a colonial hill station, where you visit a tea plantation and factory.
In Yala National Park you take morning and evening jeep safaris in search of leopards, elephants, sloth bears and crocodiles. On the way to Galle you stop at the Hummanaya blowhole, then explore the UNESCO-listed Dutch Fort and lighthouse. A visit to the Kosgoda turtle hatchery leads on to Colombo, where a city tour takes in the Fort district and colonial landmarks before you fly home.
The physical rating is medium, with an early climb up Sigiriya and long days on safari. This tour suits travellers who want to see all of Sri Lanka in comfort, with flights, meals and guiding included. Return flights from the UK and all meals are included, so there is very little to arrange. Departures run in the drier months for the best weather. Pack modest clothing for temple visits, where shoulders and knees should be covered.
