North Philippines Explorer & Bohol Beach Extension – 16 Days
Vigan, Sagada, the Banaue rice terraces and Mount Pinatubo, then three nights on Bohol's Alona Beach.
Tour overview
This 16-day journey combines the culture and mountain landscapes of northern Luzon with three relaxing nights on the beach on Bohol, one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines. The main tour is led by a tour leader in a group of up to 16 travellers aged 16 and over; on Bohol you are met by a local representative and are free to enjoy the island at your own pace. You stay fifteen nights in comfortable hotels and a beach resort, with three internal flights included. Breakfast is included every day, with one lunch of Ilocano dishes.
In Manila you explore the walled city of Intramuros and San Agustín, the oldest church in the country, and ride a jeepney to Binondo, one of the world's first Chinatowns. A short flight north brings you to Laoag for the Malacañang of the North, the UNESCO-listed Paoay Church built from coral stone and the towering La Paz sand dunes. A day on the coast follows, with a walk through rice fields to Kabigan Falls for a swim, the beach at Pagudpud and the Spanish-era Cape Bojeador Lighthouse.

Vigan, the best-preserved Spanish colonial town in Asia, is explored by kalesa, a horse-drawn carriage, with visits to museums and a traditional pottery and a taste of Ilocano specialities on Calle Crisologo. In the Cordillera mountains, you see the hanging coffins of Sagada, placed on cliff faces for over 2,000 years, and walk the Maligcong rice terraces to the village of Favarey. From Banaue you travel by jeepney to Hapao and trek to Batad, where 2,000-year-old terraces rise like an amphitheatre, before a 4×4 ride and a trek to the turquoise crater lake of Mount Pinatubo.
After a farewell night in Manila, you fly south to Bohol for three nights on Alona Beach, a stretch of white sand and clear water. The days are yours to relax, snorkel or dive over the reefs, or explore the island further, perhaps to see the Chocolate Hills or the tiny tarsier primates. A flight back to Manila ends the trip in the early afternoon.
The physical rating is medium for the main tour, with easy walks on uneven paths and stream crossings on Pinatubo. This trip suits travellers who want both culture and beach time in one journey.
