Tour overview

This 8-day small-group trip travels by train through four countries' worth of culture, from the boulevards of Paris to the canals of Amsterdam, with stops in Belgium and the Netherlands along the way. Groups have up to 12 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout and local guides in key places. You stay seven nights in standard hotels: two in Paris, two in Brussels, two in Rotterdam and one in Amsterdam. Breakfast is included daily, with a welcome dinner in Paris at Le Reflet, a restaurant in Le Marais that trains and employs people with disabilities, and a farewell dinner in Amsterdam, plus a Belgian waffle in Bruges.

In Paris, the city of art, fashion and food, you meet the group for a welcome dinner and next morning take the metro to Montmartre for a hidden highlights tour with a local guide, through the artists' quarter around Sacré-Cœur and its quieter lanes.

A train carries you north through the farmland of northern France to Brussels, where a private walking tour takes you to the Grand-Place, its gilded guildhalls and the city's comic-strip murals, with time for chocolate and frites. A day trip to Bruges reveals a medieval city of canals, cobbled squares and gabled houses, with an orientation walk and a Belgian waffle.

In the Netherlands you stay in Rotterdam, rebuilt after the Second World War as a showcase of bold modern architecture, and visit a floating dairy farm in the harbour. A short train ride takes you to Delft, home of the famous blue-and-white Delftware and the painter Vermeer, before you reach Amsterdam, with its canals, gabled houses and world-class museums, for a farewell dinner.

The physical rating is low. This trip suits travellers who want to see the highlights of north-west Europe by train, with a small group and a few special local experiences along the way. Train travel between the cities is quick and comfortable, leaving more time to explore, and the mix of guided walks and free time lets you see the famous sights as well as follow your own interests. Your leader shares tips on the best cafés, markets and museums along the way.
