Belgium, Luxembourg & the Netherlands: Brussels to Amsterdam – 11 Days
Brussels, Bruges, a château in Luxembourg, Rotterdam, Delft, The Hague and Amsterdam with a tour director.
Tour overview
This 11-day escorted tour explores the Low Countries, from the medieval canal cities of Flanders and the wooded hills of the Ardennes to the cities and museums of the Netherlands. A tour director travels with you throughout, with local experts in the main cities. You stay ten nights in central hotels and a castle: two nights at the Sofitel Europe in Brussels, two at the Radisson Blu in Bruges, two in the castle rooms of the 18th-century Château d'Urspelt near Clervaux in Luxembourg, one in Rotterdam and three at the Apollo in Amsterdam. Ten breakfasts and five dinners are included, beginning with a welcome dinner in Brussels.
From Brussels, the capital of Belgium and Europe, you choose between a visit to the battlefield of Waterloo and a chocolate truffle-making lesson. Travelling to Ghent, you see its medieval guildhalls and cathedral before reaching Bruges, a UNESCO-listed city of canals, cobbled squares and lace shops, with a relaxed start to explore at your own pace.

Crossing the French-speaking region of Wallonia, you reach the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and two nights at a château in the Ardennes. Sightseeing in Luxembourg City reveals its fortifications and old quarter perched above deep river gorges, and you explore the surrounding countryside of castles and villages. On the way north you visit Bastogne and the star-shaped Mardasson Monument, a memorial to the Battle of the Bulge.
After a night in Rotterdam, known for its modern architecture, you visit a manufacturer of original Delft blue pottery and see The Hague, seat of the Dutch government, before reaching Amsterdam. Three nights give you time to explore the Golden Age canals, see the masterpieces of Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum and enjoy a taste of Dutch traditions before the tour ends.
The physical rating is low, with gentle walking in the cities and relaxed starts. This tour suits travellers who want to see three neighbouring countries in comfort, with history, art and food along the way. Departures run from spring to early autumn, with spring tulips a highlight in the Netherlands. Pack comfortable shoes for the cobbled streets.
