Madagascar Wildlife Adventure: Tsingy, Baobabs & Isalo – 16 Days
The Avenue of the Baobabs, the Big Tsingy, Ranomafana's rainforest and Isalo's canyons, in a small group of up to 12.
Tour overview
This 16-day small-group adventure crosses Madagascar from the dry forests of the west to the rainforests of the east and the canyons of the south, in search of lemurs, chameleons and the island's extraordinary landscapes. Groups have between 4 and 12 travellers aged 16 and over, with an experienced tour leader and expert local guides. You travel by private vehicle, ferry and internal flights, and stay 15 nights in locally owned hotels. All breakfasts, one lunch and twelve dinners are included, along with a group arrival transfer.
After meeting in Antananarivo, you fly to Morondava and drive to Kirindy Forest via the Avenue of the Baobabs, with a night walk to look for nocturnal lemurs and the fossa, Madagascar's largest predator. An early forest walk searches for Verreaux's sifakas before you cross the Tsiribihina River to Bemaraha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You canoe on the Manambolo River and walk among the Small Tsingy, then spend an adventurous day in the Big Tsingy, where limestone needles rise up to 60m and you use a harness to cross hanging bridges and climb to viewpoints. On the way back you watch the sun set over the Avenue of the Baobabs.

Long drives through the western plains bring you to Antsirabe in the central highlands, where a local leader guides a gentle 35km bike ride through traditional villages. You then spend two full days on the trails of Ranomafana National Park, another World Heritage Site, where rainforest hides golden bamboo lemurs, chameleons and frogs, with the chance of a swim in the thermal pool.
Heading south, you stop at Anjà Community Reserve to see ring-tailed lemurs and the cliff tombs of the Betsileo people, then explore Isalo National Park, a sandstone landscape of canyons, gorges and natural pools. The trip ends with a farewell dinner, in Ifaty or Antananarivo depending on flights, and a flight back to the capital.
The physical rating is medium, with long, bumpy drives and one demanding day in the Big Tsingy. This trip suits wildlife lovers and adventurous travellers who want to see Madagascar's great variety of landscapes and creatures in one journey.
