Acatenango Volcano Hike & Antigua Short Break – 4 Days
An overnight hike to camp facing the erupting Volcán de Fuego, with two nights in Antigua.
Tour overview
This 4-day short break packs one of Central America's great adventures into a long weekend: an overnight hike on the Acatenango volcano, camping within sight of the erupting Volcán de Fuego. A local leader travels with the group, which numbers no more than twelve. You stay two nights at Las Farolas in Antigua and one night camping on the mountain. Three breakfasts, a lunch and two dinners are included.
Your trip begins in Antigua with a coffee and an orientation walk through the cobbled colonial city, a visit to the women-led Tikonel regenerative farming project and a welcome dinner with local hosts after a tortilla-making workshop.

The next morning a minibus takes you to the trailhead at La Soledad. You hike through maize fields and cloud forest to base camp, with lunch on the mountain and dinner at camp as darkness falls and Fuego, one of the world's most active volcanoes, lights up the sky. Before dawn you climb to the summit of Acatenango, at 3,976 metres, for sunrise views across the volcanoes of Guatemala and southern Mexico, then descend for breakfast and return to Antigua.
The physical rating is high: the hike is steep and at altitude. This short break suits fit, adventurous travellers looking for a memorable adventure in a few days.
