Tour overview

This 19-day escorted tour crosses some of Australia's most remote and spectacular country, from Perth up the Coral Coast and through the Pilbara and the Kimberley to Darwin. A tour director leads the journey throughout, travelling by coach. You stay eighteen nights in a handpicked mix of hotels, resorts and lodges, including an eco retreat in Karijini, Cable Beach Club in Broome and tented cabins at Emma Gorge. Breakfast is included daily, along with a lunch and eight dinners, including a welcome dinner in Perth and a farewell dinner in Darwin.

From Perth you head north to the limestone spires of the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, then look out over the Murchison River Gorge from the Kalbarri Skywalk. In the Shark Bay World Heritage Area you see the ancient stromatolites of Hamelin Pool and Shell Beach, and spend two nights at Monkey Mia, where wild dolphins swim into the shallows each morning. At Coral Bay a glass-bottom boat reveals the coral and marine life of the Ningaloo Reef, with a free day to snorkel with whale sharks or humpbacks in season.

Inland, two nights in Karijini National Park lead you deep into red gorges and pools billions of years in the making. After a night in Port Hedland you reach Broome, the pearling town, for a city tour and a free day on 22-kilometre Cable Beach. Dinosaur footprints at Gantheaume Point and the Mimbi Caves lead you into the Kimberley, with two nights in tented cabins at Emma Gorge in El Questro Wilderness Park.

From Kununurra you can take an optional flight over the Bungle Bungles or walk in Mirima National Park, then cross into the Northern Territory for the Katherine Outback Experience. A cruise through Nitmiluk Gorge on Jawoyn land ends your journey before a farewell dinner in Darwin.

The physical rating is medium. This tour suits travellers who want to see the vast, wild north-west of Australia in comfort.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book this tour?

Tap any "Enquire" button on the page and one of our travel specialists will be in touch within 24 hours (often same day). We'll confirm availability on your preferred date, run through anything you need to know, and only ask for the deposit once you've decided.

What financial protection do I get?

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

Can I swim with whale sharks?

Yes, as an optional extra at Ningaloo between about March and July. Humpbacks follow later in the year.

What are the tented cabins like?

Safari-style cabins with private facilities at Emma Gorge, in El Questro Wilderness Park.

Is the Bungle Bungles flight included?

No, it's optional. A walk in Mirima National Park is the alternative.

Do I need a visa?

UK citizens need an eVisitor visa for Australia, applied for online before travel.

Are there long drives?

Yes, the distances are vast, broken up with stops and sightseeing.

Who leads the tour?

A tour director travels with you throughout.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
