Kruger, Eswatini & the Garden Route – 21 Days
The Drakensberg, Zululand, Eswatini, the Kruger, the Cape and the Garden Route in a group of up to sixteen.
Tour overview
This 21-day small-group adventure combines the wildlife of South Africa's north-east with the coast, mountains and vineyards of the Western Cape and the Garden Route. A tour leader travels with the group, which numbers no more than sixteen, and you travel by minibus and 4WD, with a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town halfway through. You stay twenty nights in a varied mix of eco camps, lodges, traditional beehive huts, hotels, guesthouses and forest chalets. Breakfast is included daily, along with a picnic lunch and four dinners.
From Johannesburg you drive to the Drakensberg for a guided hike in the World Heritage mountains and lunch with a view, then visit the battlefield of Rorke's Drift on the way to St Lucia. Game drives in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi seek out the densest population of white and black rhinos in Africa, and a free day in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park offers hippo cruises and night drives. In Eswatini you sleep in beehive huts in the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary and join a walking safari among zebra and wildebeest, before a night by the Kruger and a full day of game viewing in the park.

After God's Window and the Blyde River Canyon you fly to Cape Town for a day on the Cape Peninsula, with a walk to the lighthouse at Cape Point and a visit to Simon's Town. A free morning in the city is followed by two nights in Stellenbosch with a vineyard tasting. You then visit the penguins at Stony Point, stay in Hermanus, stand at Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, and follow Route 62 through Barrydale to Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves.
On the Garden Route proper you walk Swartvlei Beach with a local conservation project, see the Knysna Heads and hike in the Robberg Nature Reserve from Plettenberg Bay. In Tsitsikamma National Park you can walk to the suspension bridges over the Storms River mouth, and your journey ends with a game drive among the elephants of Addo and a braai at a family-run homestead.
The physical rating is medium, with early starts and some long drives. This trip suits active travellers who want to see the very best of South Africa in one journey.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
