Wild South Africa with Flights – 16 Days
Cape Town, the Winelands, Hermanus, Addo and Hluhluwe, with flights and a tour director throughout.
Tour overview
This 16-day escorted tour travels the length of South Africa's southern and eastern coasts, from the mountains and vineyards of the Cape to the game reserves of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Return flights and an internal flight from Gqeberha to Durban are included, and a tour director travels with you throughout, joined by local guides on most excursions. You stay thirteen nights in four- and five-star hotels and a lodge inside Addo Elephant National Park, with two nights in flight. Breakfast is included daily, along with five lunches and four dinners.
Your journey begins with four nights in Cape Town and a welcome drink. With a local guide you visit the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens at the foot of Table Mountain, then follow the coast through Hout Bay and along Chapman's Peak Drive to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point. A day in the Winelands brings you to historic Stellenbosch and a cellar tour and tasting at the Blaauwklippen estate, and a free day leaves time for Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront or Robben Island.

Heading east along False Bay, you watch African penguins from the boardwalk at Stony Point before two nights near Hermanus, the world's best place for whale watching from the shore between June and October. On Route 62 you taste Cape brandy, then take a tractor safari on a working ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn. Crossing the Little Karoo to the coast, you see the 800-year-old Big Tree in Tsitsikamma National Park and the mouth of the Storms River before a night in Gqeberha.
For two nights you stay at a hilltop lodge inside Addo Elephant National Park, with sunset drinks on an evening drive and further drives in Land Cruisers in search of elephants, buffalo and black rhino. After a final morning drive you fly to Durban and continue to St Lucia for a boat trip on its estuary among hippos and crocodiles, followed by a full day in Hluhluwe, Africa's oldest proclaimed game reserve and home to the world's largest population of white rhinos.
The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want a comfortable, varied journey through South Africa with plenty of wildlife.

Frequently asked questions
How do I book this tour?

What financial protection do I get?
Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.
Are flights included?
Yes, return international flights, checked luggage and an internal flight from Gqeberha to Durban.
Where do the safaris take place?
In Addo Elephant National Park, staying at a lodge inside the park, and on a full day in Hluhluwe.
When can I see whales?
Hermanus is best for whales from June to October. Outside the season an optional marine cruise looks for dolphins and seals.
Do I need a visa?
UK citizens don't need a visa for South Africa, but passports need two blank pages.
Is there free time?
Yes, a full free day in Cape Town and free afternoons near Hermanus.
Who leads the tour?
A tour director travels with you, with local guides on most excursions.
Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
If this group tour doesn't match your ideal trip, our specialists will turn it into a private tailor-made journey — your own dates, your own pace, upgraded hotels where you want them, and the parts you don't love swapped out. Same destinations, just rebuilt around you.
