Country Roads of Wales, Devon & Cornwall – 11 Days
The Cotswolds, Bath, South Wales, Cornwall, Dartmoor and the Jurassic Coast with a tour director.
Tour overview
This 11-day escorted tour follows the country roads of the West Country and South Wales, from the honey-stone villages of the Cotswolds to the fishing harbours of Cornwall and the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast. A tour director leads the tour throughout, travelling by air-conditioned coach with extra legroom, and several days begin with a relaxed start. You stay ten nights in hand-picked hotels, including a night at five-star Bovey Castle on Dartmoor and two at Summer Lodge, a country house hotel in Dorset. Breakfast is included daily, with a farm-to-table lunch, four dinners and a Devonshire high tea.
Leaving London along the Great West Way, you visit Oxford and Stow-on-the-Wold in the Cotswolds on the way to Bath, where a traditional Sunday roast awaits. In the World Heritage city you visit the Roman Baths, then cross into Wales through the Brecon Beacons, choosing between a foraging walk with a local expert or a visit to a kitchen garden, before a farm-to-table pub lunch. Two nights in Cardiff include an orientation of the Welsh capital, from the Senedd to the Principality Stadium.

Heading south-west, you visit the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey and stay in Plymouth, the port of the Mayflower. Cornwall follows, with Looe, the galleries of St Ives and Penzance, then Tintagel, legendary birthplace of King Arthur, the fishing village of Port Isaac and lunch in Padstow. You continue through Lynmouth and Exmoor National Park to Bovey Castle, set in 275 acres of Dartmoor, for dinner and a night in style.
In Dorset, the estate manager of 500-year-old Athelhampton House shows you around before a Devonshire high tea in the Elizabethan gardens. At Lulworth Cove on the Jurassic Coast and seaside Weymouth you have time to explore, with dinners at Summer Lodge. On the final day you see the Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral and visit Stonehenge before returning to London.
The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want a relaxed, well-paced journey through some of Britain's loveliest countryside.
