Trip overview

Begin with five nights at Hazyview, the green, hilly town ten minutes from Kruger National Park's Phabeni Gate. From here you can join game drives into the park, follow the Panorama Route to God's Window and the Blyde River Canyon, and come back each evening to a quiet country hotel. Then fly across the Indian Ocean for a week on Mauritius' north coast.

The beach half is all-inclusive at a relaxed resort near Grand Gaube, with lagoon swimming, island boat trips and Port Louis' market within easy reach. Johannesburg links the two, with a flight of about four hours to Mauritius, and you fly home from the island. It suits couples and families who want a first safari without giving up a proper week on the sand.

Your overnight flight from London lands in Johannesburg in the morning. Connect to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport and transfer to Hazyview, about 45 minutes away.

Good to know

How do you get from Kruger to Mauritius?

There is no direct flight, so you fly from Kruger Mpumalanga Airport to Johannesburg (about an hour) and then to Mauritius (about four hours). It is usually done in a single day.

Are game drives included?

The guide price is for the hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Half- and full-day open-vehicle game drives into Kruger are easy to add when you book, or you can stay at a private game lodge where drives and meals are included.

Do I need malaria tablets?

The Kruger area is a malaria-risk area, while Mauritius is not. Speak to your GP or a travel clinic a few weeks before you go.

Can I add Cape Town?

Yes. Three or four nights in Cape Town fit well before Kruger, with direct flights from London to Cape Town and from Cape Town to Kruger.
