Trip overview

Start with seven nights on Barbados' west coast, near the old fishing town of Speightstown, where the Caribbean side of the island is calm, clear and good for swimming with turtles. You have the island's rum shops, beach bars and the Friday fish fry at Oistins within reach, plus direct flights from the UK. Staying on this side of the island also means quieter beaches and sunsets over the sea every evening.

Then take a short inter-island flight north to St Kitts for three nights. It is greener and quieter, with rainforest climbing the slopes of Mount Liamuiga, Brimstone Hill Fortress on the coast and the narrow-gauge Scenic Railway round the old sugar estates. Nevis is a short ferry ride away for a day trip, and you fly home from St Kitts.

Good to know

How do you get from Barbados to St Kitts?

By a short inter-island flight. Some days have a direct service of about 1h 15m; on others you connect through Antigua. Baggage limits can be lower on regional airlines.

Can I stay on Nevis instead of St Kitts?

Yes. Nevis is quieter, with historic plantation inns such as Montpelier Plantation & Beach. You fly into St Kitts and cross by water taxi or ferry in about 30 minutes or less.

Do I need a visa?

UK citizens do not need a visa for a holiday in Barbados or St Kitts and Nevis. Your passport should be valid for the length of your stay; check GOV.UK for current entry rules.

Can I fly from Manchester?

Virgin Atlantic flies from Manchester to Barbados on many dates, so starting from Manchester is often possible. The flight home from St Kitts usually connects in Antigua for London.
