South Korea & Japan: Seoul, Kyoto & Tokyo by Bullet Train – 16 Days
Seoul, the DMZ, Gyeongju and Busan, then Hiroshima, Kyoto and Tokyo by bullet train, fully inclusive with flights from the UK and all meals.
Tour overview
This 16-day escorted tour combines the highlights of South Korea and Japan, two countries linked by a short flight but very different in character. It is fully inclusive: return flights from the UK, 3-star-plus and 4-star hotels, all meals, guided sightseeing with entrance fees, and all transport, including high-speed trains in both countries. An escort and local guides look after the group throughout.
In Seoul you watch the Changing of the Guard at Gyeongbokgung Palace, cook bibimbap at a Korean cooking class and see the city from N Seoul Tower. A day at the Demilitarised Zone takes you into the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel and up to Dora Observatory, overlooking North Korea. A train south leads to Gyeongju, capital of the Silla kingdom for a thousand years, with the UNESCO-listed Bulguksa Temple and Seokguram Grotto and the royal tombs of Tumuli Park. In the port city of Busan you browse the Jagalchi fish market and the Gukje market.

A one-hour flight takes you to Fukuoka on Kyushu, where you visit the Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine before the bullet train to Hiroshima. There you visit the Peace Memorial Park and Museum, take a boat to an oyster farm and cross by ferry to Miyajima and its floating torii at Itsukushima Shrine. On the way to Osaka you stop at Kurashiki's canal-side Bikan quarter and the Koraku-en garden in Okayama. From Osaka you visit Nara's Todai-ji temple and deer park, Dotonbori and Osaka Castle.
Two nights in Kyoto, Japan's capital for a thousand years, bring the Ryoan-ji rock garden and the Golden Pavilion of Kinkaku-ji, a traditional tea ceremony, the Arashiyama bamboo grove and fan painting. Lunch is with a maiko, an apprentice geisha, followed by the thousands of red torii gates of Fushimi Inari. In Hakone you visit the shrine on Lake Ashi, with Mount Fuji in the distance on clear days, and try yosegi marquetry. The tour ends in Tokyo with the Skytree, Senso-ji temple in Asakusa, a bonsai workshop and a Tokyo Bay cruise.
The pace is steady and the physical rating low, though some days involve two to five hours on foot. It suits travellers who want to see both countries in depth, with every detail arranged.

Frequently asked questions
How do I book this tour?
Tap any "Enquire" button on the page and one of our travel specialists will be in touch within 24 hours (often same day). We'll confirm availability on your preferred date, run through anything you need to know, and only ask for the deposit once you've decided.
What financial protection do I get?
Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.
Are flights included?
Yes. Return economy flights from the UK, taxes and fuel surcharges are included, along with the flight from Busan to Fukuoka and airport transfers.
What meals are included?
All meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, including lunch at the Seoul cooking class and lunch with a maiko in Kyoto.
How much walking is there?
The physical rating is low, but some days involve two to five hours on foot, and coaches cannot always park close to sights. At Senso-ji, for example, the walk can be up to 15 minutes.
Do I need to take my shoes off?
Often. Shoes are removed at many temples, some restaurants and the tea ceremony, so easy-off shoes and spare socks help. Dress modestly for the DMZ.
Can special diets be catered for?
Tell the team at booking. Vegetarian and gluten-free diets are catered for where possible, but options can be limited outside the big cities.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes. Children must be at least 12 years old.
Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
If this group tour doesn't match your ideal trip, our specialists will turn it into a private tailor-made journey — your own dates, your own pace, upgraded hotels where you want them, and the parts you don't love swapped out. Same destinations, just rebuilt around you.
