MSC Cruises
European-flavoured family cruising at scale, with Mediterranean and Caribbean coverage year-round.
A short flight from the UK takes you to one of the Mediterranean's busiest cruise ports, with sailings to Italy, France and the islands.
Barcelona is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Mediterranean and one of the easiest to reach from the UK. Flights from most major British airports take around two hours, so you can fly out in the morning and be on board by the afternoon. For many UK travellers it is the simplest way to start a Mediterranean cruise without spending days at sea getting there.
Most of the big Mediterranean cruise lines use the port, from family-focused classic ships to premium and luxury lines. That makes it a good place to compare styles: a lively big ship with water slides and shows, a calmer premium ship with more time in port, or a smaller ship that can reach quieter harbours. The live search below shows which lines are sailing from Barcelona for your dates.
The western Mediterranean is the classic itinerary from here, typically calling at ports in the south of France, Italy and the Balearic Islands, with some routes adding Corsica, Sardinia or Sicily. Longer sailings can continue towards the Greek Islands or out into the Atlantic. Many itineraries are 7 nights, with options from short three- or four-night breaks up to 10 to 14 nights.
The main season runs from April to October, with May, June and September offering warm weather without the peak summer crowds. Some lines sail from Barcelona all year round, and winter cruises are quieter and often good value. It is well worth adding a night or two in the city before you sail, to see the Sagrada Familia, the Gothic Quarter and the seafront at an easy pace.

Barcelona’s cruise terminals are close to the city centre, so it is easy to combine your cruise with a short city break. A night or two before you sail lets you see the Sagrada Familia, the Gothic Quarter and the seafront without rushing.
Flying in on the day you sail is possible, but leaves little margin if a flight is delayed. Arriving the day before is the safer choice, especially in the busy summer months.
Booking flights, a hotel and transfers together with your cruise keeps everything joined up. Our Travel Designers can arrange the whole trip from your nearest UK airport.
A cruise from Barcelona suits travellers who want the most Mediterranean for their holiday time, with a short flight from the UK and a week packed with ports rather than sea days.
It also suits families, because the big Mediterranean family ships are well represented here, and couples who want to combine a city break in Barcelona with a cruise.
If you would rather not fly at all, sailings from Southampton reach the Mediterranean too, though they take longer. Our Travel Designers can compare both options for your dates.
Most travellers fly from a UK airport to Barcelona, a flight of around two hours, then transfer to the cruise terminal by taxi or coach. We can arrange flights, transfers and a hotel in the city as part of your booking, so the whole journey is covered and timed to fit your sailing.
Most sail the western Mediterranean, visiting ports in the south of France, Italy and the Balearic Islands. Some include Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily or Malta, and longer itineraries continue to the Greek Islands, the Adriatic or out to the Atlantic coast and the Canary Islands. Autumn transatlantic sailings to the Caribbean also leave from here.
May, June and September are often the best months, with warm weather and fewer crowds than July and August. The full season runs from roughly April to October. Winter sailings are quieter, cooler and often cheaper, and suit travellers more interested in sightseeing ashore than in time by the pool.
We usually recommend it. Arriving the day before means a delayed flight will not affect your sailing, and it gives you time to enjoy the city. A night or two lets you see the Sagrada Familia, the Gothic Quarter and the seafront at a relaxed pace. We can book a hotel and transfers for you.
