Georgia Real Food Adventure – 8 Days
Bazaars, wine, cheese and family kitchens from Tbilisi to the Caucasus in a group of up to twelve.
Tour overview
This 8-day small-group adventure explores Georgia through its food, from bustling city bazaars to family kitchens in the valleys and mountains of the Caucasus. A local leader travels with the group, which numbers no more than twelve. You stay seven nights in hotels and a community guesthouse, with breakfast daily and many lunches and dinners: seven breakfasts, four lunches and six dinners.
After a welcome dinner in Tbilisi, a local guide leads you through the terraced alleys of the Old Town, up to Narikala Fortress and into the Dezerter Bazaar, the city's great market. In Kakheti, Georgia's wine region, you explore hilltop Sighnaghi, meet a qvevri wine master and watch churchkhela, the walnut and grape sweet, being made. In Telavi you tour the market and visit a local cheesemaker for a tasting.

In the Pankisi Valley you stay at a community guesthouse and learn about the culture of the Kist people, with a Chechen cooking class. Driving north along the Georgian Military Highway past the Ananuri fortress, you spend two nights in the mountains, with a hike up to Gergeti Trinity Church beneath Mount Kazbek. On the way back to Tbilisi you visit Jvari Monastery and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta, one of the oldest cities in the world.
The physical rating is medium. This trip suits food lovers who want to taste the real Georgia with local people.
