Treasures of Taiwan: Taipei, Sun Moon Lake & the East Coast – 14 Days
Taipei, Sun Moon Lake, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Kenting and the east coast, fully inclusive with flights from the UK, all meals and a national escort.
Tour overview
This 14-day escorted tour makes a full loop of Taiwan, from the capital Taipei through the mountains and temples of the west to the tropical south and the wild Pacific coast of the east. It is fully inclusive: return flights from the UK, 3-star and 4-star hotels, all meals, guided sightseeing with entrance fees, and all transport. A national escort travels with you throughout.
In Taipei you visit the Martyrs' Shrine, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Longshan Temple, and go up Taipei 101 for views over the city. The National Palace Museum holds one of the world's finest collections of Chinese art. You then head into the heart of the island to Sun Moon Lake, often called Taiwan's most beautiful spot, for a motorboat cruise and visits to the Wen Wu Temple, the Holy Monk Shrine, the Cien Pagoda and the indigenous village of Tehua. Next morning you tour a tea farm and ride the cable car to the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village.

Tainan, Taiwan's oldest city and capital until 1887, is known for its temples and folk traditions. You visit Chihkan Tower and the Confucius Temple, walk the old streets of Anping and watch the sunset over the harbour. In Kaohsiung you see the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas and visit Foguangshan, Taiwan's largest monastery, with a vegetarian feast and a 36-metre Buddha.
In the far south, Kenting National Park mixes low mountains, cliffs and beaches in a tropical climate. You walk among the rock formations of Sheding Nature Park and stop at Oluanpi Lighthouse. The east coast road leads to Chihpen, famous for its hot springs, where dinner comes with a performance of traditional music and dance. On the way north to Hualien you may see wild monkeys at Donghe and visit Cisingtan Lake.
Parts of Taroko National Park remain closed after the 2024 earthquake, so the Taroko day visits the Taroko Archway and Visitor Centre and Hualien instead, until the park reopens. The tour ends with the Cingshuei Cliffs, a whisky tasting at the Kavalan distillery and a farewell dinner in Taipei.
The pace is relaxed, with a low physical rating. It suits travellers who want to discover Taiwan's culture, food and scenery with everything arranged.
