Best of Norway, Sweden & Finland: Oslo to Helsinki – 11 Days
Oslo, Gothenburg and the island of Vrångö, Stockholm and an overnight ferry to Turku and Helsinki, by train and boat in a small group.
Tour overview
This 11-day small-group trip links three Nordic capitals, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki, travelling by train and boat and spending time on the water and the islands as well as in the cities. Groups have 4 to 16 travellers aged 16 and over, with an expert tour leader. You stay in comfortable city hotels and spend one night on an overnight ferry with a sea-view cabin. Breakfast is included every day, with two group dinners. The trip is land-only, starting in Oslo and ending in Helsinki, with group transfers available.
Oslo starts with a welcome dinner and a boat trip around the bays and islands of the Oslofjord, leaving a free afternoon for the Holmenkollen ski jump and museum or the city's galleries. A four-hour train ride crosses into Sweden to Gothenburg, where a city tour ends with fika, the Swedish coffee break, at a café famous for its giant cinnamon buns. Next day a ferry takes you to Vrångö, the southernmost island of the Gothenburg archipelago. A local guide shows you its fishing community, beaches and nature reserves, and there is a chance of a floating sauna or a sea swim.

In Stockholm, spread across islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic, you have three nights. After an introductory tour, a ferry takes you to the museum island of Djurgården for the Vasa Museum, home to a 17th-century warship that sank on its maiden voyage and was raised in 1961. A day pass lets you explore further on public transport. A boat tour shows you the old town and the green parks from the water before you board the overnight ferry to Finland.
In Turku, Finland's oldest city, a local guide walks you along the Aura River to the Old Great Square, the medieval cathedral and Turku Castle. A short train ride brings you to Helsinki for two nights and a tour with your guide. A ferry takes you to Suomenlinna, a UNESCO-listed sea fortress built across six islands, with more than 200 buildings and six kilometres of walls.
The physical rating is low, though you will wheel your bag on and off trains and ferries. The trip suits travellers who want a relaxed, well-paced introduction to Scandinavia and Finland, with plenty of free time.
