Grenada holidays
The Spice Isle — nutmeg and cocoa plantations, rainforest waterfalls, Grand Anse beach and St George’s harbour, one of the Caribbean’s prettiest.
Overview
Welcome to Grenada
Grenada is known as the Spice Isle: nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and cocoa grow in its green, mountainous interior, and the scent of spice is part of everyday life. It is one of the most authentic and least developed islands in the Caribbean, with friendly villages, small hotels and lush rainforest. Grand Anse, two miles of soft white sand near the capital, is one of the region’s best beaches, and quieter bays such as Morne Rouge and La Sagesse are close by.
St George’s, the capital, wraps around a horseshoe harbour with pastel houses climbing the hills, Fort George and a busy spice market. Inland, Grand Etang National Park has a crater lake, rainforest trails and the Annandale, Seven Sisters and Concord waterfalls. Visitors can tour nutmeg processing stations, cocoa estates and chocolate makers, and the River Antoine rum distillery, still powered by a water wheel. Offshore, the Underwater Sculpture Park is a unique snorkel and dive site, and the sister islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique are wonderfully quiet.
