Tour overview

This 6-day short break pairs some of Greece's greatest ancient sites with relaxed days by the sea in Loutraki, a spa town on the Gulf of Corinth, before a final night on the Athens Riviera. Groups have up to 16 travellers aged 15 and over, with a leader throughout. You stay five nights: four in a hotel in Loutraki and one on the Athens Riviera. Five breakfasts and five dinners are included, along with an olive oil tasting and lunch, making this an easy, good-value introduction to Greece.

Your trip begins with a welcome meeting in Athens, then a short drive takes you west across the Corinth Canal to Loutraki, known for its thermal springs and seafront promenade. A guided tour of Ancient Corinth reveals the Temple of Apollo and the ruins of a city that was once one of the richest in ancient Greece. Nearby, you visit an olive mill to learn how olive oil is made, followed by a tasting and lunch.

One of the highlights is a guided visit to Epidaurus on the Peloponnese, a sanctuary of healing famous for its fourth-century theatre, still celebrated for its near-perfect acoustics. You also visit a traditional ouzo distillery to discover the story behind Greece's favourite aperitif.

Free days let you choose your own adventure: perhaps a day trip by ferry to the islands of Aegina or Agistri, a swim in the turquoise waters of Lake Vouliagmeni, kayaking, or a wine tasting in the nearby vineyards of Nemea. On the last full day you return to Athens, once the heart of a powerful civilisation, for a final night on the Athens Riviera, with time to see the Acropolis and Plaka before you leave.

The physical rating is low, with gentle walking at the archaeological sites. This short break suits travellers short on time who want ancient history, good food and time by the sea in under a week. Free days give you the flexibility to rest or explore, and the hotel in Loutraki is a short walk from the seafront. Departures run from spring to autumn. Comfortable shoes are useful at the sites.
