Tour overview

This eight-day tour stays in one hotel and walks out from it. Every night is spent at Hotel Pia Bella (or similar) in Kyrenia, a short walk from the old harbour, and each morning a short transfer reaches the start of the day's route. It suits anyone who wants to hike without packing and unpacking.

The walking covers five days and centres on the Kyrenia mountains and their castles. You explore St Hilarion, built as a 10th-century hermitage and later fortified, climb around 680 steps to Buffavento, the highest Crusader castle on the island, and look over both coasts of the Karpas peninsula from Kantara. Other days take in Bellapais Abbey, the stalactites of Incirli Cave, the Five Finger Mountains and the Armenian monastery of Sourp Magar. Distances run from about 5 km to 16 km a day, mostly on old dirt tracks and rocky paths, and the tour is graded moderate overall.
