Crete is the biggest, with gorges, Minoan palaces, great food and resorts for every taste. Rhodes pairs a medieval Old Town with sandy beaches and pretty Lindos. May to October is the season. June and September are the sweet spot, warm and sunny with fewer crowds than July and August. Flights from the UK take three to four hours, depending on the island.
