Tauck

Family-run premium tours and river cruises since 1925

Tauck has been operating premium escorted tours for 100 years from its Connecticut headquarters — and river cruises since 1992. Famously inclusive (tipping, excursions, drinks, transfers all in), small group sizes, exclusive after-hours access at major sites, and a focus on cultural-immersion over sightseeing.

Why book Tauck

Why a Tauck voyage?

Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.

A century of family ownership

Tauck has been family-owned and operated since Arthur Tauck Sr started running motor tours in 1925. Three generations in. The corporate culture is exceptionally stable, the staff turnover low, the institutional knowledge of destinations deep.

Genuinely inclusive

All gratuities (including ship crew, tour director, local guides, hotel staff), all drinks at lunch and dinner, all transfers, all excursions, all hotel stays before and after the cruise where applicable. Pricing is honest because there are very few extras.

After-hours and exclusive access

Tauck's scale and long supplier relationships mean private after-hours access to major sites — Vatican Museums after closing, private dinners in Loire châteaux, behind-the-scenes Buckingham Palace tours. These are signature Tauck experiences not bookable individually.

Family-tilted Bridges itineraries

Tauck Bridges is the family-cruise version — same Tauck quality, with multi-generational programming, family-tailored excursions, children's travel director, age-appropriate cabin configurations. Great for cruising with kids/grandkids.

The honest version

Might not be for you if…

No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where Tauck might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.

You want a purely on-board cruise experience

Tauck is tour-led — the destination programme is the point, not the ship. If your priority is onboard activities and ship amenities, look at AmaWaterways or Scenic.

You want all-day drinks all-included

Wine, beer and soft drinks are included at lunch and dinner. Bar drinks outside meal times are paid extras. For full bar all day, look at Scenic or Uniworld.

You're US-skeptical

Tauck is unmistakably American in tone, structure and clientele. Most guests are repeat North Americans. The atmosphere is friendly and refined but distinctly US-cultural.

FAQ

Quick answers about Tauck

How is Tauck different from other river lines?
Tauck is a tour operator that runs river cruises, not a cruise line that runs tours. The whole programme is led by a Tauck Tour Director (typically credentialed historians or culture specialists) — not just the on-shore excursions. The ship is the moving hotel; the destination is the point.
What's Tauck Bridges?
Tauck's multi-generational family product. Same Tauck quality, with family-tilted excursions (kids' versions of museum tours, treasure hunts at archaeological sites), a dedicated children's travel director, age-graded activities, and family cabin configurations. Strong with 8-17 year olds.
How exclusive is the after-hours access?
These are genuine exclusives — private after-closing tours of Vatican Museums, the Hermitage in St Petersburg (when sailing), Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, behind-scenes at Buckingham Palace and others. Tauck's 100-year relationships unlock access that's not bookable any other way.
