AmaWaterways
America's favourite river-cruise line in Europe and beyond
Family-owned and Atlanta-headquartered, AmaWaterways is the largest US-market river cruise brand. Custom-built ships, twin balconies in most cabins, an included excursion programme that runs from gentle to active (including biking and hiking), and the fewest-passengers-per-crew ratio on Europe's rivers.

Why a AmaWaterways voyage?
Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.
Twin-balcony cabins are the AmaWaterways signature
Most cabins (Cat AA and above) feature both a real outside balcony AND a French balcony — letting you open the room fully across both walls when the ship is moored. Very few river lines offer this.
Active excursions, not just bus tours
Free bike rentals on board (most ships carry 25-30 e-bikes), guided cycling and hiking excursions in addition to traditional walking tours. Genuinely fitness-friendly without making non-cyclers feel left out.
European rivers + global expansion
Rhine, Danube, Main, Moselle, Rhone, Saone, Garonne, Dordogne, Douro — the whole European map. Plus the Mekong (Cambodia/Vietnam), the Nile (Egypt), the Chobe (Botswana) and the new Magdalena River in Colombia from 2024.
The dining is good — and the local sip
AmaWaterways was the first river line to be inducted into La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs (the global gastronomic society). The Chef's Table specialty restaurant is included on every voyage. Wine, beer and soft drinks included at lunch and dinner.
Might not be for you if…
No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where AmaWaterways might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.
You want adults-only
AmaWaterways welcomes families and runs themed family departures (with junior cruise directors, family bike rides, age-tailored excursions). For strict adults-only, look at Viking, Uniworld or Riverside Luxury.
You want full all-inclusive
Wine/beer/soft drinks are included with meals; premium spirits and cocktails outside meal times are paid extras. For everything-included drinks, look at Scenic or Uniworld.
You want ocean-style entertainment
River cruise = smaller ships = no Broadway shows. Entertainment is local musicians, port lectures, a small piano lounge. If you want big-ship variety, this is the wrong format entirely.
