When to go and getting there
May to October is the season; the sea is warmest from July to October. Flights to Heraklion or Chania take around four hours from the UK. Most north-coast resorts are within 20 to 60 minutes of Heraklion airport.
What to eat outside the resort
Even on all-inclusive, it is worth trying a local taverna: Cretan food is among the best in Greece. Look for dakos, slow-cooked lamb, snails, kalitsounia cheese pies, local olive oil and honey, and a glass of raki at the end of the meal.
