Belek and Side get most of the attention, but the two ends of the Antalya coast are just as rewarding. Kemer, to the west, has pine-covered mountains plunging to the sea and a pretty marina; Alanya, to the east, has a dramatic castle-topped headland, Cleopatra Beach and a lively town.

Kemer or Alanya?
Kemer: mountains, pine forests and pebble beaches, around an hour from Antalya airport, with the Mount Tahtalı cable car and the ancient city of Phaselis nearby. Alanya: a lively town with sandy Cleopatra Beach, a hilltop castle and boat trips to sea caves, around two hours from Antalya airport or about 40 minutes from Gazipaşa.

When to go
May to October is the season, with June and September ideal. July and August are very hot, often in the mid-30s °C. Flights to Antalya take around four and a quarter hours from the UK.

Ride the cable car up Mount Tahtalı, explore the Roman ruins of Phaselis by the sea, visit Kemer’s marina, climb to Alanya Castle, swim at Cleopatra Beach, take a boat trip to the Damlataş Cave and the pirate caves, and go rafting in the Köprülü Canyon.
