Tour overview

This 8-day small-group walking holiday follows the Lycian Way, Turkey's first long-distance trail, along the Mediterranean coast from Fethiye to Kaş. Groups have 4 to 16 walkers aged 16 and over, with a tour leader throughout. You walk six days of 10 to 18 kilometres on cliff paths, forest tracks and old village trails, while your main luggage travels by vehicle. You stay in simple, family-run hotels and a village house, with breakfast daily, three lunches and two dinners. The trip is land-only, with a group airport transfer to Dalaman at the end.

The walk starts near Ovacık and climbs the shoulders of Baba Dağı, with views over the turquoise lagoon of Ölüdeniz, to the clifftop village of Faralya. Next, a steep climb through pine forest leads onto terraced farmland high above Kabak beach. You pass the hamlet of Alınca to reach Gey, where you spend the night in a traditional village house with a home-cooked dinner.

From Gey the trail stays high above the coast to Bel, then crosses plains and pine woods down to Sidyma. This hillside ancient city is known for its unusual tombs. A short transfer takes you to Patara for two nights. Next day you follow the route of the Roman aqueduct from Delikkemer through fields and forest to the southern end of Patara Beach, one of the longest in Turkey, for a swim. Patara's own ruins include a restored theatre and an assembly hall.

The final walking days climb to the ridge of Mount Felen, past streams and villages little touched by modern life, with views of the high mountains and the coast. You then drive down to Kaş, one of the prettiest harbour towns on the Turkish Riviera, for two nights. A last walk leads to the ancient port of Aperlae, where a boat collects you for Kekova Bay. You see the sunken city and the castle-topped village of Simena, reachable only on foot or by boat, with a barbecue lunch on board.

The walking is graded moderate, on rough and sometimes steep paths. It suits regular walkers who want coastal scenery, ancient history and village hospitality without carrying their bags.

How hard is the walking?

Graded moderate. You walk six days of about 10 to 18 kilometres on rough, sometimes steep paths, with climbs each day. Regular walking experience helps.

No. Fly into Dalaman. Group transfers back to Dalaman on Day 8 leave Kaş at 7am and 4:30pm.

What is the village house like?

A traditional house in Gey with twin and multi-share en-suite rooms for up to four people. Single rooms are not available that night.

Yes, at Patara Beach on Day 5, and the hotels in Patara and Kaş have pools.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
