Malta Uncovered: Valletta, Gozo & Mdina with Flights – 8 Days
Valletta, Gozo, Mdina, a vineyard and the Blue Grotto, from one hotel with flights, half board and a tour director.
Tour overview
This 8-day escorted holiday is a great-value introduction to Malta and Gozo, with flights, half board and a full programme of excursions included, from one comfortable hotel. The price covers return flights, airport transfers, coach travel and the Gozo ferry, and a tour director looks after you throughout. You stay seven nights with breakfast and dinner daily, and all local accommodation taxes are included; where the hotel has a pool, it opens in the summer months. Groups have up to 25 travellers aged 18 and over.
Your first excursion explores Valletta, built by the Knights of St John after the Great Siege of 1565. A guided walk takes you through its Baroque streets to St John's Co-Cathedral, home to Caravaggio's The Beheading of St John the Baptist, and the Malta Experience presents the island's long history. You can stay on for the Archaeological Museum, the Grand Master's Palace or the War Museum at Fort St Elmo. Fort St Elmo, scene of the fiercest fighting of the Great Siege, guards the tip of the peninsula.

On Gozo you visit the capital, Victoria, and its Citadel, the coastline at Dwejra Bay and the prehistoric temples of Ġgantija, among the oldest free-standing structures on Earth. After a free day for the pool or the seafront, a short drive takes you to Rabat, where St Paul's Catacombs hold the earliest archaeological evidence of Christianity in Malta, and on to the walled former capital of Mdina, the Silent City.
A free morning, perhaps for a long seafood lunch, leads to an afternoon vineyard visit and tasting. The final excursion heads to the south coast for the sparkling waters of the Blue Grotto and the clifftop temples of Ħaġar Qim, before a last dinner and the flight home.
The physical rating is low. This holiday suits travellers who want an easy week of sunshine and history at a good price, with dinners, flights and excursions arranged and a tour director on hand. Departures run through autumn and spring, when the weather is pleasantly warm for sightseeing.
