Self-Guided Walking in Cyprus: The Akamas Peninsula – 8 Days
Self-guided: hill villages, gorges and turtle beaches on the wild Akamas Peninsula, with two hotels and trailhead transfers.
Tour overview
This 8-day self-guided walking holiday explores the Akamas Peninsula, the wildest and least developed corner of Cyprus, where rugged headlands, gorges and empty beaches meet traditional hill villages. There is no group or tour leader: you walk at your own pace, following detailed route notes and GPX files, with transfers to and from trailheads on two days. You stay in two three-star hotels with modern rooms and good restaurants, four nights in the inland village of Droushia, where the hotel has an infinity-edge pool, and three nights on the coast near Polis. Breakfast is included daily.
The first walks are circular routes from Droushia across the Laona plateau. You pass through the stone-built villages of Kritou Terra and Kato Arodes, among orchards and vineyards, to the Kremiotis waterfall and the medieval chapel of Agia Paraskevi, with the chance to stop at a local winery along the way. Droushia itself is a pretty village with tavernas and wide views over the coast.

Next you descend from the plateau to the Lara coast, with a stretch through the narrow limestone walls of the Avakas Gorge, past the beaches of South Lara and Toxeftra, where loggerhead and green turtles nest in summer. The walk ends at Agios Georgios tis Pegeias, with its medieval church, early Christian ruins and a fishing shelter with a good taverna.
Moving to the coast, a long day on the Smigies, Adonis and Aphrodite trails gives sweeping views from Cape Arnaoutis, the island's north-western tip, across Chrysochous Bay. A circular walk along the north coast follows the Adonis Trail past the coves of Fontana Amoroza, the Blue Lagoon and the Baths of Aphrodite, the grotto where the goddess is said to have bathed. The last full day is free to relax by the beach or walk back to the Blue Lagoon for a swim.
The walking is graded medium, with some rocky paths and ascents, for around four to six hours a day. Spring and autumn are the best seasons, with wild flowers in spring and warm seas in autumn. This holiday suits independent walkers who want quiet trails, sea views and good Cypriot food.

Frequently asked questions
How do I book this tour?
Tap any "Enquire" button on the page and one of our travel specialists will be in touch within 24 hours (often same day). We'll confirm availability on your preferred date, run through anything you need to know, and only ask for the deposit once you've decided.
What financial protection do I get?
Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.
What does self-guided mean?
There is no tour leader or group. You walk independently using detailed route notes and GPX files, with transfers to trailheads on two days.
How hard are the walks?
Graded medium, typically four to six hours a day on rocky paths and tracks, with some ascents and descents.
When is the best time to go?
Spring and autumn. Spring brings wild flowers, autumn warm seas for swimming. Summer is very hot.
What meals are included?
Breakfast every day. Both hotels have restaurants, and there are tavernas within walking distance.
How do I get there?
Fly to Paphos, around 45 minutes by road from Droushia. A specialist can arrange flights and transfers.
Is this the same as walking in Northern Cyprus?
No. The Akamas is in the far west of the Republic of Cyprus, a separate area from Northern Cyprus.
Can you tailor the trip?
Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.
What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
Not quite the right fit? Make it tailor-made.
If this group tour doesn't match your ideal trip, our specialists will turn it into a private tailor-made journey — your own dates, your own pace, upgraded hotels where you want them, and the parts you don't love swapped out. Same destinations, just rebuilt around you.
