Tour overview

This 10-day escorted tour visits Budapest, Vienna and Prague at a gentle pace, with three nights in each city and plenty of free time, so you can enjoy the coffee houses, concerts and boulevards without rushing. You travel by comfortable coach with a tour director throughout and local experts in each capital, and several days have a relaxed start. You stay nine nights in stylish central hotels: the Mövenpick Budapest Center, the Am Konzerthaus MGallery in Vienna and the K+K Central in Prague. Nine breakfasts and five dinners are included, from a welcome dinner of Hungarian delicacies with wine to an authentic Viennese dinner and a progressive dine-around in Prague.

In Budapest, the Queen of the Danube, you tour the Liszt Music Academy, followed by a recital by one of its students. A free day lets you soak in a thermal bath, browse the boutiques of Váci Street or explore the Castle District at your own pace.

On the way to Vienna you stop in the pretty town of Győr, where three rivers meet. In Vienna, much of whose charm is due to the long reign of the Habsburgs, a local expert takes you on a private visit to Maria Theresa's Schönbrunn Palace. Another free day leaves time for St Stephen's Cathedral, the art collections of the Hofburg or a slice of Sachertorte.

Crossing into the Czech Republic, you stop in fairy-tale Český Krumlov, with its castle above a loop of the Vltava, before arriving in Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires. A local expert leads you through the courtyards of Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, and your final day is free for the Charles Bridge, the Old Town Square or a trip to Dresden.

The physical rating is low. This tour suits travellers who want to see Central Europe's highlights without rushing, with comfortable hotels and memorable dinners. Staying three nights in each city means less packing and more time to enjoy the music, food and architecture at your own pace.
