Budapest to Prague Adventure: Bratislava, Vienna & Mikulov – 8 Days
Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Moravian wine country and Prague by bus and train, with a small group of up to 18.
Tour overview
This 8-day small-group trip travels from Budapest to Prague the local way, by bus and train, linking four capitals with a stay in the wine country of southern Moravia. Groups have between 4 and 18 travellers aged 16 and over, with a tour leader throughout. You stay seven nights in comfortable hotels: one in Budapest, two in Bratislava, two in the Moravian town of Mikulov and two in Prague. Breakfast is included daily, and the transport between cities, including return train tickets to Vienna, is arranged.
The trip starts in Budapest, Hungary's picturesque capital on a beautiful stretch of the Danube, with an orientation walk through the hillside streets of Buda and the boulevards of Pest. A three-hour drive takes you to Bratislava, Slovakia's compact capital, for a walking tour of its old town, castle and quirky statues.

From Bratislava you take a short train ride to Vienna for a day exploring the Austrian capital, from the Hofburg and St Stephen's Cathedral to its coffee houses, with the chance to return by boat along the Danube. Another short train and bus journey brings you to Mikulov, a historic town of vineyards, a hilltop chateau and limestone hills in southern Moravia. You visit the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of palaces, follies and parks, and enjoy a wine tasting.
The next morning you visit Mikulov's renowned Jewish cemetery, where generations of the town's Jewish community, including notable figures, are buried, before a free afternoon. A longer train journey then takes you to Prague, the City of a Hundred Spires, for a walk on arrival and a free day to explore, perhaps taking the train to Konopiště Castle, once the home of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
The physical rating is low. This trip suits independent-minded travellers who want to see Central Europe's capitals and a lesser-known wine region at a relaxed, good-value pace. Travelling by train is part of the fun, with comfortable carriages and views of the Danube plains and Moravian vineyards along the way, and your leader handles the tickets and connections so you can simply enjoy the journey.
