Tour overview

This 18-day escorted tour combines the great sights of Egypt and Jordan, with return flights from the UK, all internal flights and nearly every meal included. You travel with a group and local guides, stay in four- and five-star hotels, cruise the Nile for four nights on a five-star ship and spend a night in a comfortable desert camp in Wadi Rum. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included almost every day, along with entrance fees, a felucca sail, 4×4 trips in Wadi Rum and a cooking class in Petra.

Cairo opens the journey with the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, the treasures of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Khan el-Khalili bazaar, followed by the Coptic Quarter and the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. A trip to the Mediterranean takes in Alexandria's Roman theatre, the catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa and the Qaitbay Citadel, and the Second World War battlefield and cemeteries of El Alamein.

A short flight to Luxor begins a four-night Nile cruise. You visit the temples of Karnak and Luxor, the Colossi of Memnon, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings, then sail south to the temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo. From Aswan you make the journey to the colossal temples of Abu Simbel, see the High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and the Temple of Philae, and sail on a traditional felucca.

Flying to Amman, you visit Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the Middle East, with a chariot-race show, Ajloun, Amman's Citadel and Roman theatre, and the desert castles. Mount Nebo and the mosaic map of Madaba lead to two nights in Petra, which you see by day and again by night, when the Treasury is lit by more than a thousand candles, with a Levantine cooking class with a local chef. After Little Petra, a 4×4 takes you into Wadi Rum for a night in a desert camp with air-conditioned tents, and the tour ends with a float in the Dead Sea and a farewell dinner.

The physical rating is medium, with early starts and walking at sites. This tour suits travellers who want both countries' highlights in one trip, with flights and almost everything arranged.

What financial protection do I get?

Every Travelisto booking is 100% financially protected. Your money is held in a ring-fenced Trust account until you return from your trip, and we are members of the Protected Trust Services scheme (PTS 6035). Most tours also include ATOL protection where flights are part of the package.

Are flights included?

Yes. Return flights from the UK are included, as are the flights from Cairo to Luxor, Aswan to Cairo and Cairo to Amman, and all airport transfers.

What does the Nile cruise include?

Four nights on a five-star ship with en suite cabins, all meals on board, and guided visits to Luxor, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Abu Simbel and Aswan.

What is the Wadi Rum camp like?

A comfortable desert camp with air-conditioned tents, private facilities and a swimming pool, after a 4x4 trip into the desert.

Can you tailor the trip?

Yes — every escorted tour can be modified into a private tailor-made version with your own dates, adjusted pace, upgraded hotels and add-on extensions. Tell us what you'd like changed when you enquire and we'll quote it both ways so you can compare.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

If your international flight is part of your booking through us, we re-book at no cost. If you've booked flights separately, the tour's local team holds your transfer slot until you arrive. We strongly recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes delay and cancellation cover.
