The South Caucasus is three small countries wedged between the Black Sea and the Caspian, with some of the highest mountains in Europe, the oldest wine-making tradition on earth and hospitality so generous it should come with a health warning. Georgia will feed you until you beg for mercy and then pour you another glass. Armenia will show you monasteries perched on cliffs with Mount Ararat floating on the horizon. Azerbaijan will dazzle you with flame-shaped skyscrapers, a medieval walled city and a hillside that has been on fire for decades.
The question is how many to see. This guide compares every tour we offer in the region, from a week of Georgian food and wine to a month that starts in Istanbul, with who each suits and its honest drawback.
The quick answer
- One country (Georgia): for food, wine and mountains in a week, pick A Taste of Georgia or the Georgia Real Food Adventure.
- Two countries: Highlights of Azerbaijan & Georgia (10 days) or Luxury Treasures of Georgia & Armenia (12 days).
- All three: The Best of Azerbaijan, Georgia & Armenia (19 days), or the luxury version in 16.
- Everything arranged, with flights and almost every meal: Georgia, Armenia & Azerbaijan with Flights.

One, two or three: the honest trade-offs
Georgia alone is the easiest choice: a week is enough for Tbilisi, the Kakheti wine country and the high Caucasus at Kazbegi. Adding Azerbaijan brings the Caspian, Baku’s old city and Silk Road towns like Sheki. Adding Armenia brings ancient monasteries, Yerevan and the views of Mount Ararat.
One thing to know: the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan is closed, so three-country tours run Azerbaijan, then Georgia, then Armenia (or the reverse), with Georgia in the middle. That’s no hardship, since Georgia is the bit everyone wants more of anyway, but it does mean longer drives.
