Map & location
Alvor, Algarve, Portugal
Set on the sands of Praia de Alvor, Pestana Dom Joao II enjoys one of the Algarve’s classic beachfront positions. A wooden boardwalk and coastal paths run straight from the hotel gardens through the dunes, making it easy to wander into Alvor’s fishing village for grilled fish, harbourfront drinks and sunset strolls.
Behind the hotel, the coastline curves towards the livelier Praia da Rocha, while a clutch of quality golf courses sits just a short drive inland – ideal if you want to split your days between the beach, the fairways and exploring the traditional side of the Algarve.

Facilities
Pool & outdoors
The resort is well-stocked with places to swim. You’ll find:
• Two main outdoor pools, including saltwater options, each with spacious sunbathing areas, sunbeds and parasols
• Children’s outdoor pools and sections in some of the larger pools so little ones can splash safely
• An indoor heated children’s pool at the spa centre – ideal for cooler days or off-season visits
Complimentary pool towels are provided, which keeps luggage light. Step beyond the gardens and you’re straight onto Praia de Alvor, a deep sweep of sand backed by dunes and linked by boardwalks – perfect for long walks, shell-hunting with the kids or simply laying out a towel and doing very little at all.
Spa, sports & wellness
Golfers are particularly well-catered for, with access to around five golf courses in the vicinity, including championship layouts (pre-booking required and local charges apply). Back on site, there’s plenty more to keep you active:
• Air-conditioned gym with cardio machines, free weights, stretching zone and resistance equipment (16+, typically 08:00–20:00)
• Sports & games including tennis (charge), table tennis, volleyball, football, pool and snooker tables, plus mini-golf (charges may apply)
For wind-down time, head to the Magic Spa, complete with sauna, steam room, and a menu of massages and beauty treatments for guests aged 16+ (all at extra cost).
Regular daytime activities (seasonal) and evening entertainment – such as live music – add a gentle buzz without tipping into full-on party territory.
