Monte Rei Golf and Country Club is tucked away inland on the peaceful eastern side of the Algarve, close to the small coastal town of Vila Nova de Cacela. The resort sits between the Serra do Caldeirão hills and the Atlantic, giving you big landscapes, starry skies and a wonderfully unhurried feel.
You’re here primarily for the golf and serenity rather than nightlife. Local restaurants and low-key bars are a short drive away, while the long, sandy beaches of this coastline – such as Praia da Manta Rota and Praia de Cacela Velha – are within easy reach for a change of pace by the ocean.

Pools
The resort features two beautifully landscaped outdoor freshwater pools, each with an integrated children’s section. Both are heated between November and March, making shoulder-season and winter golf getaways feel more like a year-round option. Loungers, parasols and pool towels are complimentary, and the surrounding terraces are peaceful spots for a post-round stretch or a lazy afternoon with a book.
Beaches
If you fancy a break from the fairways, the long, soft sands of Praia da Manta Rota and the more secluded Praia de Cacela Velha lie around 8–10km away. Both are classic Eastern Algarve beaches: wide, uncrowded and backed by dunes, with inviting water in summer and laid-back seafood restaurants nearby.

- Monte Rei North – Par 72 | Men’s handicap 28, Women’s 36 | 7,182 yards | Driving range: yes. A Jack Nicklaus Signature design and frequent “best in Portugal” contender, this rolling parkland layout blends dramatic doglegs, water hazards and sculpted bunkering. Hole 13, combining lakeside carries with sand, is a signature challenge.
- Quinta da Ria – Par 72 | Men’s handicap 28, Women’s 36 | 6,579 yards | Driving range: yes. A flatter course with a traditional feel, set by the Ria Formosa with sea views, lakes, bunkers and olive trees adding both strategy and scenery.
- Quinta de Cima – Par 72 | Handicap 36 | 7,202 yards | Driving range: yes. A longer, championship-style layout with generous fairways, well-defended greens and plenty of variety.
Rounds are pre-booked across the duration of your holiday (no two rounds on the same day) with tee times typically between 08:00 and 13:00. Golf buggies are included, subject to availability. Transfers to Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima are arranged locally as part of selected golf packages.
Wellness & Fitness

Monte Rei’s gastronomic flagship, this Michelin-starred restaurant (open roughly February–mid-November, depending on occupancy) offers creative tasting menus and an elevated wine list. Perfect for a special evening on-site. Gentlemen are asked to wear long trousers, and beachwear is not permitted.

Vila Nova de Cacela is a laid-back corner of the Algarve with a local, authentic feel. You’re around 3–4 hours’ flying time from the UK, with a 1-hour private transfer from Faro (FAO) to the resort. The local language is Portuguese, currency is the Euro (€), and time is aligned with GMT.
