Christmas Markets of Croatia, Slovenia & Austria – 8 Days
Zagreb, Postojna, Ljubljana, Graz, Bratislava and Vienna at Christmas, by coach with a tour director.
Tour overview
This 8-day escorted tour follows Advent from the Adriatic hinterland to the Danube, visiting the Christmas markets of four capitals and Graz. You travel by comfortable coach with extra legroom and a tour director throughout, with local experts in key cities and several relaxed starts. You stay seven nights in hand-picked hotels: two at the Sheraton Zagreb, two at the Exe Lev in Ljubljana, one in Bratislava and two at the Hilton Vienna Park. Seven breakfasts and three dinners are included, among them a welcome dinner with wine in Zagreb and a dinner of Slovenian specialities with wine in Ljubljana.
Zagreb's Advent festival has been voted one of the best in Europe, and you can try ice skating on King Tomislav Square before a local expert guides you through the two-tiered capital, past the Art Pavilion, the Academy of Sciences and Arts and the lights of Zrinjevac Park.

Crossing into Slovenia, you board a little train into the world-famous Postojna Caves, a vast underground world of stalactites and stalagmites, before arriving in Ljubljana. A local expert reveals the Baroque elegance of the capital, from the medieval castle above the city to the City Hall, St Nicholas Cathedral and the bridges over the Ljubljanica river, all strung with festive lights.
Travelling through Austria, you stop in Graz to see the Castle Hill and Town Hall in its UNESCO-listed old town before continuing to Bratislava, the small but historic capital of Slovakia, with its castle and lively market in the main square. Vienna is the grand finale, a city of nostalgia and romance at this time of year, with concerts, nativity displays and Advent markets in front of the City Hall and Schönbrunn Palace, followed by a farewell dinner.
The physical rating is low, with walking on cobbles in winter weather. This tour suits travellers who want to discover less-visited Christmas markets alongside Vienna's classics, with every detail arranged. Expect mulled wine, gingerbread, roasted chestnuts and handmade decorations at every stop, with old towns twinkling with lights after dark. Departures run in early December, when the markets are at their liveliest.
