Kos or Zante?
Kos: flat and easy to explore by bike, with long sandy beaches at Marmari, Tingaki and Kardamena, and a historic harbour town. Zante: greener and more dramatic, with Shipwreck Beach, sea caves and loggerhead turtles; Tsilivi and Alykanas have shallow water that is perfect for little ones. Both are around three and a half to four hours from the UK.

When to go
May to October is the season. June and September are ideal for families: warm sea and sunshine without the peak heat. Flights to Kos take around four hours and to Zante around three and a quarter, and most resorts are within 20 to 40 minutes of the airport.
Family days out
Kos: cycle to Tingaki, explore Kos Town’s castle and ancient agora, visit the Asklepion, and take a boat to the volcanic island of Nisyros. Zante: take a boat to Shipwreck Beach and the Blue Caves, look for turtles on a responsible boat tour in Laganas Bay, and visit Marathonisi island.
