Day-by-day itinerary

14 days from Bangkok, Thailand to Trat, Thailand

  1. Day 1 Bangkok arrival

Land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and transfer to your Sukhumvit-district hotel — a quiet boutique on a side street, walkable to Asok BTS station and a short Grab ride to the river. Time to settle in, shower and eat at a local rooftop your hotel concierge can point to.

  2. Day 2 Bangkok at your pace

Free day in Bangkok. Your Travel Designer can pre-arrange a half-day food and temple tour with a private guide, a cooking class, a Chao Phraya boat tour — or leave you to wander Sukhumvit's eating streets, markets and rooftop bars.

  3. Day 3 To Koh Chang

Domestic flight from Bangkok to Trat (approximately 1 hour in the air, plus check-in and transfer time on each end). Road transfer to Ao Thammachat ferry pier, ferry across to Koh Chang's east coast, hotel transfer to your beachside resort.

  4. Day 4 Koh Chang day

Free day to settle into island time. Beach, optional mangrove kayak, optional waterfall hike (Klong Plu), optional dive trip or sunset cruise.

  5. Day 5 Koh Chang day

A second free day. Many guests use this for a longer hike inland (the national-park interior is rainforest), a boat trip to neighbouring uninhabited islets, or simply the beach.

  6. Day 6 Koh Chang day

Final Koh Chang day. The island has more good restaurants than you'd expect for its size — a curated list is in your hotel pack.

  7. Day 7 To Koh Mak

Speedboat south to Koh Mak (approximately 50 minutes through the small islands). Smaller, quieter, fewer cars. Check into your boutique resort.

  8. Day 8 Koh Mak day

Free day. Koh Mak is small enough to cycle round in a few hours — bikes free from your hotel. Coral coves on the south coast for snorkelling.

  9. Day 9 Koh Mak day

Second Koh Mak day. Optional half-day trip out to Koh Kham (a tiny coral island off Koh Mak's north coast) for snorkelling, or just more beach.

  10. Day 10 To Koh Kood

Speedboat onwards to Koh Kood (approximately 45 minutes). The largest of the three eastern islands but the least developed — long empty white-sand beaches, dense jungle interior, very few people.

  11. Day 11 Koh Kood day

Beach day. The hotel is right on Klong Chao beach — calm, swimmable water.

  12. Day 12 Koh Kood day

Free day. Optional jungle hike up to the island's Klong Chao waterfall, or kayak around to neighbouring beaches.

  13. Day 13 Koh Kood day

Final island day. Use it for rest, a boat trip, or whatever you fancy.

  14. Day 14 Departure

Speedboat back to the mainland (approximately 1 hour 10 minutes). Road transfer to Trat airport for the domestic flight to Bangkok (approximately 1 hour), then your onward international flight home (approximately 11–13 hours).

This trip might not be for you if…

Honest disclaimer — please read

  • You want urban or nightlife — these eastern islands are quiet by Thailand standards. For a party-and-pool experience, Koh Samui or Phuket is the better fit.
  • You can't be flexible with weather — May to October is the wet season here; we generally recommend December to April for the best beach days.
  • You need fixed dates and times now — this is a tailor-made trip and we'll quote it with your specific dates once you enquire.
  • You expect 5★ luxury — the recommended hotels are good 3★ properties with character. We can quote 4★ / 5★ alternatives at additional cost if preferred.
  • You're not comfortable with small-boat crossings — the speedboat hops between islands can be choppy in poor weather.
