Oceania Cruises

The finest cuisine at sea — premium mid-size cruising

Oceania is best known for two things: the finest food at sea (their tagline, defensible by independent reviews) and country-intensive itineraries that stay in port late. Mid-size ships (700-1,250 guests), elegant but unstuffy, with a loyal repeat-cruiser base.

Why book Oceania Cruises

Why a Oceania Cruises voyage?

Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.

The food really is exceptional

Multiple included specialty restaurants per ship — Polo Grill (steakhouse), Toscana (Italian), Red Ginger (Asian), Jacques (French) on the larger ships, plus the Grand Dining Room. The Culinary Center offers hands-on cooking classes at sea — the only line that does.

Country-intensive itineraries

Late nights and overnights in port are the Oceania signature. Itineraries typically have 12-20 ports across 10-14 days, with at least 4-6 overnight stays — perfect for travellers who want to actually experience destinations, not just glance at them.

New Allura — twin to Vista

Allura joined the fleet in July 2025 — Oceania's sixth in the modern series. Same beautiful design as Vista (2023), bigger spas, all-balcony cabins, the Aquamar Spa, and the new Founders Bar. Already booking through 2027.

OLife Choice — pick your perks

Oceania's included-extras programme: choose between free shore excursions, free beverage package, or onboard credit. Plus included WiFi for every guest. Lets you customise value to what you'll actually use.

The honest version

Might not be for you if…

No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where Oceania Cruises might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.

You want kids' clubs and entertainment

Oceania has no kids' clubs and the entertainment is quieter (classical recitals, cabaret, lectures). For family cruising, Royal Caribbean or MSC fit. For party vibe, NCL or Virgin Voyages.

You want a casino-and-show ship

Oceania ships have casinos but they're small. Production shows are limited. The culture is about food, ports and conversation, not Broadway productions.

You're on a budget

Oceania is premium-priced and the headline fare is on the higher side. For mid-priced cruising with similar destination quality, Holland America or Princess fit better.

FAQ

Quick answers about Oceania Cruises

Why is Oceania known for food?
Multiple specialty restaurants are included in every fare — no surcharge to eat at Polo Grill, Toscana, Red Ginger or Jacques. The Grand Dining Room is more refined than most mainstream lines' formal restaurants. Their Culinary Centers host hands-on cooking classes at sea, unique to the line.
Are Oceania ships big?
No — Oceania is deliberately mid-size. Regatta-class ships carry around 670 guests; the newer Marina/Riviera/Vista/Allura class carries around 1,250. Big enough for multiple restaurant choices, small enough to dock in smaller ports.
Do I need to dress up?
Country-club casual is the standard dress code. No formal nights required — jacket and tie are not expected. Elegant but not stuffy.
How does Oceania compare to Viking Ocean?
Both are premium destination-focused lines. Viking is all-inclusive (drinks, excursions, WiFi all in the fare) but more restrained on food. Oceania has the better dining but charges for drinks. Viking sails adults-only; Oceania welcomes all ages but has no kids' programmes.
