This 8-day small-group tour visits some of Germany's most famous Christmas markets, travelling from Berlin to Munich through Saxony and Bavaria. A tour director travels with the group throughout, with local experts for city tours, and you travel by private coach between cities. You stay in comfortable four-star hotels, including Hilton properties in Berlin and Dresden and a Marriott in Munich, with breakfast daily, a welcome dinner and three further dinners. Airport transfers are included on arrival in Berlin and departure from Munich. Travel is by comfortable coach.
After a welcome dinner in Berlin, a local expert shows you the Brandenburg Gate, the State Opera House, Unter den Linden, the restored Reichstag and remnants of the Berlin Wall, with free time to visit the city's markets, including the one at the Gendarmenmarkt. Heading south, you stop in Leipzig to see Bach's Thomaskirche and its medieval market square, home to one of Germany's prettiest Christmas markets, with around 250 stalls.

Dresden, rebuilt in its baroque splendour after the Second World War, is home to the Striezelmarkt, one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany and the birthplace of the Christmas stollen. A guided walk takes in the Procession of the Dukes mosaic, the cathedral, the Semper Opera House, the Zwinger Palace and the Frauenkirche, risen again from wartime ruins. Dresden's market dates back to 1434 and is famous for its giant Christmas pyramid.
In Nuremberg, the Christkindlmarkt fills the main square with red-and-white canopied stalls selling gingerbread, mulled wine and the famous prune figures, framed by the city's ancient walls. A drive through the heart of Germany brings you to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe, with its year-round Christmas shop. The tour ends in Munich, where you can choose a guided walk through the city's Advent traditions or a visit to the Residenz palace, before a farewell dinner.
