Vienna Christmas Markets Break with Flights – 4 Days
Three nights in a four-star hotel, a guided tour of imperial Vienna and time at the Spittelberg and Freyung markets, with flights.
Tour overview
This 4-day escorted break is a festive long weekend in Vienna, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe at Christmas. Return flights from London Gatwick, London Heathrow or Manchester are included, with hand luggage, coach transfers to and from the hotel, and a tour director throughout. You stay three nights at a four-star hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis, leaving the evenings free for mulled wine and dinner in the city's coffee houses and restaurants. The break is for adults aged 20 and over, travelling as a coach group.
Vienna in Advent is filled with the smell of roasted chestnuts and punch, and its squares are lit with dozens of Christmas markets. On the first full day, a guided tour introduces the grand buildings and squares of the Ringstrasse, the imperial Hofburg Palace and the coffee-houses of the Innere Stadt, the old town, before time to wander two of the city's most charming markets. Many stalls sell hand-made decorations, wooden toys and gingerbread, and the markets are especially atmospheric after dark.

Spittelberg, set in the narrow Biedermeier lanes behind the MuseumsQuartier, is known for its handmade crafts and cosy atmosphere. Freyung, in front of the Schottenstift monastery, is one of the oldest markets, with traditional decorations and Austrian specialities. Further markets wait in front of the City Hall, at Schönbrunn Palace and in the Belvedere's gardens, all easy to reach by tram or underground.
The third day is yours to explore more markets, visit a museum or café, or join an optional full-day excursion across the border to Bratislava, the Slovakian capital on the Danube, with its own old town and festive market. On the final day you return to the airport for the flight home. Bratislava's compact old town is easily explored on foot, with a castle overlooking the Danube.
The physical rating is low, with walking on cobbled streets that can be icy in December. This break suits couples and friends looking for a short, festive city break with flights, hotel and transfers taken care of, and time to explore at their own pace. Single rooms are available for a supplement.
