Viva Cruises
German river cruising — design-led modern ships
Founded 2018 by the Düsseldorf-based Scylla AG group, Viva Cruises operates contemporary, design-led river ships on the Rhine, Main, Danube, Moselle, Rhône, Saône, Douro and Seine. Newer fleet than most European river lines, with strong sustainability investment (Viva One was river cruising's first fully-electric ship in 2023).

Why a Viva Cruises voyage?
Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.
Newest river-cruise fleet in Europe
Most Viva ships are 2020-2024 builds — contemporary Scandi-influenced design, large windows, top-deck lounges and panorama bars. Cleaner and more design-forward than most river-line offerings.
Viva One — Europe's first fully-electric river ship
Launched 2023, Viva One is the first river cruise ship in Europe operated solely on battery-electric power at low speeds and in port. Zero emissions in port, near-silent operation, the future of river cruising.
Casual, design-led atmosphere
Viva's aesthetic is contemporary Scandinavian — light woods, natural fabrics, minimal-but-comfortable. Less formal than some heritage river lines, attractive to younger and design-conscious travellers.
Open-buffet and à la carte options
Dining mixes a casual buffet area for breakfast and lunch with à la carte dinners — and Viva Cucina, a casual all-day pasta and pizza venue available on most ships. More flexible than traditional river dining.
Might not be for you if…
No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where Viva Cruises might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.
You want full all-inclusive
Wine and beer at meals are included; premium spirits and outside-meal drinks are paid extras (or available as packages). Excursions are mostly paid extras. For all-inclusive river, Scenic.
You want English-default
Viva Cruises is primarily German-market — most departures are bilingual (English + German) but some are German-only. We confirm at booking. For English-default river, AmaWaterways, Viking or Avalon.
You want long-established brand
Viva launched in 2018 — relatively new. For longer river-cruise history, Viking, AmaWaterways or Uniworld carry more legacy weight.
