Why book Scenic Ocean Cruises

Why a Scenic Ocean Cruises voyage?

Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.

Submarine + two helicopters on board

The Eclipse-class carries a 7-passenger U-Boat Worx submarine that dives to 300 m, and two 6-passenger helicopters with FAA-rated pilots. Submarine dives and heli flights are offered on most voyages (additional cost; weather and ice permitting).

Polar Code 6 ice-class

These ships are seriously polar-capable. Antarctica voyages run November-March, Arctic and Greenland in northern summer. The Discovery Yacht concept is "go anywhere", and the ice rating backs it up.

Genuinely six-star all-inclusive

All-suite (largest standard ocean-cruise suite in the industry), all drinks (premium), all dining (10+ venues), butler service in every suite, all excursions across multiple tiers, gratuities, transfers. The pricing matches — but the inclusions are real.

Discovery Team of 20+ specialists

On polar and remote voyages, a Discovery Team of marine biologists, geologists, glaciologists, naturalists, photographers, scientists and historians sails with the ship — leading shore landings, daily briefings and onboard enrichment.

The honest version

Might not be for you if…

No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where Scenic Ocean Cruises might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.

You want a casual mainstream cruise

Scenic Ocean is at the luxury end. The ships are elegant, dress is smart, dining is fine. For a relaxed family-friendly cruise, NCL or Carnival fit better.

You're budget-led

Six-star pricing is exactly what it sounds like. For premium-mid pricing with similar destinations, Oceania or Viking Ocean are alternatives.

You want a big-ship cabin choice

Eclipse-class has 114 suites in around 15 categories — well-curated but not vast. Mega-ship lines offer dozens of cabin tiers.

FAQ

Quick answers about Scenic Ocean Cruises

Can I dive in the submarine?
Yes — submarine dives are bookable on most voyages (subject to weather, ice and operational considerations). Approximately 1-hour dives to 200-300 m, 7 passengers per dive, additional cost per person. Pre-bookable before the voyage.
Are the helicopters useful?
Helicopter flights are typically used for scenic flights over Antarctic ice fields, Norwegian fjords, Greenland glaciers — when conditions allow. Some voyages also offer heli-landings for guided excursions. Additional cost; weather-dependent.
How do Scenic Eclipse and Eclipse II differ?
Eclipse II (2023) refined Eclipse (2019) — a few extra suites, slightly upgraded spa, second wellness pool. Same overall ethos and same kit (submarine + 2 helicopters each). Either is a great choice.
