Why book Marella Cruises

Why a Marella Cruises voyage?

Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.

Truly all-inclusive as standard

Flights, transfers, luggage, food, drinks AND tips are all baked into every Marella fare. Not an optional upgrade, not a fare tier — just the standard offer. Genuinely unusual at this price level.

End-to-end UK service through TUI

Marella is TUI's cruise line. Bookable in nationwide TUI Stores, by phone, online or via travel agents. The 24/7 TUI Guest Experience Centre handles everything pre-, during and post-cruise — the most joined-up UK cruise journey.

Cruise & Stay packages

Combine your cruise with 3, 4 or 7 nights at one of 200+ TUI hotels across the Caribbean, Canaries, Mediterranean and beyond. Add a Tenerife week onto a Med cruise; pair Barbados with a Caribbean sailing. Two breaks for one booking.

Family AND adults-only ships

Marella Discovery, Marella Explorer and Marella Voyager are family-friendly with kids' clubs. Marella Explorer 2 is dedicated adults-only (16+) for couples and friends groups. Same brand, the right ship for your group.

Mediterranean and Caribbean strongholds

Marella focuses on the destinations Brits actually want to go to — Mediterranean from Corfu and Malta, Caribbean from Barbados and Antigua, plus Asian and Northern European seasonal routes. Fewer sea days, more port time.

Mid-size ships, more port time

Marella ships carry 1,800-2,800 guests — large enough for modern facilities (climbing walls, theatres, multiple restaurants), small enough to reach ports the mega-ships can't. Mid-size is the sweet spot.

The honest version

Might not be for you if…

No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where Marella Cruises might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.

You want ultra-luxury cruising

Marella is mid-market all-inclusive, not luxury. The fares are sharp and the value's real, but if you want all-suite ships with butler service look at Silversea, Regent or Seabourn.

You want premium brand-name drinks

The all-inclusive package covers standard wines, beers, cocktails and spirits. Premium brands (Hendrick's, Grey Goose, vintage champagnes) carry a small upcharge. The standard list is broad and unlimited.

You want a small-ship intimate feel

Marella ships are mid-size — friendly but not boutique. If you want 200-guest small-ship cruising look at Sea Cloud, Star Clippers or SeaDream.

You want very fancy fine dining

Marella's included dining is solid mid-market — waiter-service mains, buffets, themed nights. There are speciality restaurants on board but the celebrity-chef tier (Atul Kochhar, Marco Pierre White) is P&O territory, not Marella.

FAQ

Quick answers about Marella Cruises

What's actually included in Marella's all-inclusive package?
Flights from the UK, airport-ship transfers, luggage allowance, all main dining and buffets, all standard drinks (spirits, wines, beers, cocktails, soft drinks), and tips/gratuities. Speciality restaurants (Surf & Turf Steakhouse, Kora La, The Dining Club) carry a small per-cover upcharge. Wi-Fi and premium drink brands are extra. The package is the same on every Marella fare — there's no "premium" upgrade.
What's Cruise & Stay?
Marella's signature add-on: combine your sailing with 3, 4 or 7 nights at one of 200+ TUI hotels across the Caribbean, Canaries and Mediterranean. Pair a Med cruise with a Tenerife stay; tag a Caribbean sailing with a week in Barbados. The cruise package then includes both the cruise and the hotel.
Are gratuities included?
Yes — tips and service charges are included in every Marella fare. There's no separate per-day gratuity added on board. This is a Marella signature and a key reason their fares feel sharper than apparent.
Are Marella ships good for families?
Yes — Marella Discovery, Marella Explorer and Marella Voyager are family-friendly with three age-banded kids' clubs (Hideout 3-5, Hangout 6-11, HQ for teens). Family-sized cabins are available across the fleet. The exception is Marella Explorer 2 which is adults-only (16+).
Does Marella sail from the UK?
Marella is predominantly a fly-cruise operator — most sailings start from a Mediterranean or Caribbean homeport with UK return flights included in the fare. Direct flights from major UK airports are part of the standard package.
What's the dress code?
Smart casual most evenings. Marella has 1-2 formal nights per 14-night voyage but they're relaxed by cruise standards — a collared shirt and trousers is acceptable, no dinner jacket required. Buffets stay casual. Marella is markedly less formal than P&O or Cunard.
Is there a loyalty programme?
Not in the points-and-tiers sense. Marella deliberately doesn't run a standardised loyalty club. Returning guests receive thoughtful personal gestures on board (drinks vouchers, recognition) plus mailing-list access to itinerary previews and exclusive returning-guest offers.
Do I need a passport?
Yes — a valid passport with at least six months' validity beyond your voyage end date is essential for every Marella sailing. The package includes flights from the UK to the cruise homeport, so a passport is mandatory throughout.
Loyalty

No fixed loyalty club
