Regular Screening Improves Survival For Cancer Patients With Family History Of Breast Cancer
Regular screening improves the survival rate for cancer patients with a family history of breast cancer. Investigators in England report, "Women with a family history are often offered mammographic surveillance at an earlier age and with greater frequency than those in the National Breast Screening Programme. In this study, we compared the survival of 62 breast cancer patients diagnosed in the context of a family history clinic offering 12-18 monthly mammographic screening with that of 1108 patients of the same age range but having no exposure to screening." in Need of Advice on Best Treatments For Stage iv Lung Cancer
Hello everyone.I am writing you once again because I need some advice. My mom was diagnosed back in Feb of this year with stage 4 lung cancer. I cannot remember what type of tumor it is (i just called the hospital to check and am waiting for a call back.) Also, the tumor is on the left side.THe doctors at HillMan Cancer center in Pittsburgh, PA recommended that we do a trial of the two usual chemo agents, plus valcade. The valcade made her impacted and she ended up in the hospital for 10 days almost having to get her bowels resectioned. At that time my mom was inadvertantly doing everything one could do to become impacted, so it wasn't simply the valcade. This exempted her from the trial. She was very weak from the hospital...

In an effort to develop noninvasive options to assess lym...

Mom's First Treatment
I just got back from my Mom's first chemo treatment. It was truly emotional. She took her emend before her treatment and they put anti-nausea medication in her IV before she started the chemo. She had a combination of cisplatin and etopocide. She was a real trouper. At first when I picked her up today before treatment she said she almost did not go through with it. But then she changed her mind. My greatest fear is that since she breezed through this the first day, what is going to happen when and if the side effects start. She has chemo every day this week, however, only the etopocide for the rest of the week and then the cisplatin on next Monday. She also starts radiation tomorrow and has that every day right before her chemo. I...

The Women's Cancer You Don't Know About Lung Cancer
Sep. 5--Newsday reporter Lauren Terrazzano, who has covered child welfare issues for 10 years, originally published this account of her battle with lung cancer in the Sept. issue of Self magazine (Self.com), on newsstands through Sept. 25. At the Memorial Sloan-Kettering outpatient cancer center in midtown Manhattan, benches line the elevators that soar high above the city. I noticed the tan upholstered seats immediately, perplexed that anyone would even need to sit for an elevator ride. I was there for my first round of chemotherapy, in September 2004, having been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer at age 36.
