"Mesothelioma attorney" - Mom's First Treatment
Mom's First Treatment
I just got back from my Mom's first chemo treatment. It was truly emotional. She took her emend before her treatment and they put anti-nausea medication in her IV before she started the chemo. She had a combination of cisplatin and etopocide. She was a real trouper. At first when I picked her up today before treatment she said she almost did not go through with it. But then she changed her mind. My greatest fear is that since she breezed through this the first day, what is going to happen when and if the side effects start. She has chemo every day this week, however, only the etopocide for the rest of the week and then the cisplatin on next Monday. She also starts radiation tomorrow and has that every day right before her chemo. I...

Nanotechnology May Aid Medical Screening
(UPI via COMTEX) -- U.S. scientists say they are exploring the use of nanotechnology as a source of diagnostic healthcare screening tools for women. Rush University Medical Center researchers -- in a unique collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory and the Illinois Institute of Technology -- say nanotechnology might lead to strikingly new ways to diagnosis and treat ovarian cancer. "While the mortality rates of many cancers have decreased significantly in recent decades, the rate for ovarian cancer had not changed much in the last 50 years, primarily due to delays in diagnosis," said Dr. Jacob Rotmensch, section director of gynecologic oncology at Rush. "By exploiting the unique properties of nanotechnology, we...
Exposure to Some Rock Powder Can Cause Malignant Mesothelioma
Californians who live close to naturally occurring asbestos sources and who are exposed to low levels of the mineral are at increased risk for developing cancerous mesothelioma, a serious cancer of the membrane covering the lung, according to a new study published in the second issue of the October 2005 American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Marc B. Schenker, M.D., M.P.H., of the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health, at the University of California, Davis, along with four associates, investigated 2,908 cancerous mesothelioma cases reported over a 10-year period (1988 to 1997). Over 50 percent of the men and 58 percent of the women, all of whom were listed in the California Canc......
Jury Finds Chrysotile Asbestos Causes Rare Peritoneal Mesothelioma
A jury awarded over $1.9 million to a 71-year-old retired sheet metal worker, Genaro Garcia, who developed peritoneal mesothelioma from his prior on-the-job exposure to asbestos (Genaro Garcia and Dalia Garcia v. Duro Dyne Corporation, SF Superior Court, #418098). Peritoneal mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer that first attacks the membranes lining the stomach. This fatal disease is almost always caused by asbestos exposure.......
